Glorious Gladiolus
48” x 24 “ - Oil on Linen - Sold
This painting grew out of a quiet walk in the garden with my mother as she was recovering from pneumonia. The sight of the gladiolus blooming that day became more than just a flower. It carried with it the memory of resilience, care, and shared presence.
In this work, I approach the gladiolus both as a botanical subject and as a symbolic form. The careful rendering of the flower respects its natural structure, while the looser, more impressionistic handling of the background creates a layered space where memory and emotion are joined. Oil paint allows me to build this duality: density and permanence in the petals, alongside shifting brushwork that suggests fleeting time.
